Puttenham Barn Bunkhouse offers simple overnight accommodation for outdoor people.
Our Barn provides reasonably priced wardened accommodation for up to 11 visitors - similar to, but more basic than a Youth Hostel. It inspires an imaginative vision with a strong environmental emphasis. It is run entirely by volunteers.
We are located in west Surrey on the North Downs Way and Sustrans cycle route 22 between Guildford and Farnham, at a point not served by any Youth Hostels.
If you’re on a pilgrimage between Winchester and Canterbury, then you walk right past our door. We are the perfect place for an overnight rest.
Urgent - Can You Help? Two volunteer roles at Puttenham Barn need filling!
Do you or anyone you know have an hour a week to spare on our small community eco-project?
Our current excellent 'company secretary' has recently stepped down with our grateful thanks, and we now desperately need some support. Would you share your skills in helping us with a small amount of legal documentation this year for our eco-charity/company?
If you (or anyone you know) might be willing to produce 'micro-accounts' and meet for a cuppa with our friendly trustees around four times a year, we'd love to hear from you.
Forms and templates are available.
We currently have Facebook and Instagram accounts that need care and attention - are you a marketing superstar who knows how to get our barn in front of the right people?
We can provide some content but would ask for your creativity and help in generating more. Experience in previously supporting small charities or accommodation providers would be a plus.
It is important for us that the volunteer knows the barn already or is willing to visit and learn its story - this is a very special place and we believe it needs to be experienced to share its true value.
Hours can be arranged to suit your lifestyle, especially if pre-scheduling posts.
For both roles, please contact our coordinator Tish - we look forward to hearing from you!

We often have requests about how people can donate to help Puttenham Barn. We are very grateful that you think of us in this way. The button below allows you to donate with a bank card right here. It uses our secure payment provider Stripe to make a donation to help ensure the future of our barn. Or simply get in touch.
Thank you for thinking of us in this way. We would also be grateful if you would download and complete the Gift Aid part of this Gift Aid declaration form, as it allows us to make even better use of your donation.
Our wonderful old listed building has been sympathetically restored to be environmentally friendly. We have rainwater harvesting, solar electricity and solar hot water. The restoration we have carried out enables you to see traditional and sustainable construction methods. A lockable cycle storage shed is available - designed by cyclists for cyclists! In addition to the sleeping area there is also a communal kitchen and a shower-room. The barn does its best to cater for people with disabilities.
Despite its age, our barn is fully equipped with fire warning and emergency lighting systems, and these are regularly inspected for correct operation. Electrical appliances are regularly tested for safety.
This is our communal kitchen, with full cooking facilities provided.
Project Oasis North Downs is a registered charity originally set up to achieve this ambitious project. The charity's role now has progressed into one of operating as a bunkhouse and maintaining the barn into the future. Please help by becoming a supporter of POND, or by donating money, time or skills in one of the many ways that you could help.
Project Oasis North Downs is a registered charity, No. 1053871.
