Puttenham Barn Bunkhouse offers simple overnight accommodation for outdoor people.
- When can I check-in or check-out?
- Check-in: 5 pm to 9 pm (17:00 to 21:00).
- Check-out: 7 am to 10 am (07:00 to 10:00)
- When is the barn closed?
- 10 am to 5 pm (10:00 to 17:00). There is no access at all during the day.
- Where do I sleep?
- We have eight bunk beds and a sleeping platform for three, in 3 areas separated by partitions. Early arrivals have more of a choice.
- Where can I park?
- Cycles including electric cycles can be safely stored in our purpose-built bike shed. Room for tricycles is very limited.
- All other motor vehicles must be left at the roadside nearby. Entry onto our site is not allowed even for unloading, under the terms of our lease.
- If you have limited mobility and need to bring a vehicle, please contact us first.
- How much does it cost?
- Our basic price is £23.00 for adults and £17.50 for people under 18. Please see our book page for full details.
- Safety
- We cannot accept responsibility for any damages or loss including accident or injury resulting from use of the barn. A warden is on duty for all the time that the barn is open, and is there to help you. Please make yourself familiar with the exit routes in the unlikely case of an emergency.
- Smoking
- The barn and the whole area around it are strictly a non-smoking area.
- How do I find you?
- Please see the details on our Travel page.
- If you arrive before we are open at 5 pm (17:00), the Parish Church opposite is one place nearby to visit. There is also a recreation field 300 m away with a play area - go down the hill past the Good Intent, right into School Lane and at the end on the left.
- Who will be there?
- We welcome individuals, families and groups, and particularly those with a love of the countryside. The barn is unsuitable for groups likely to be very noisy, as we have nearby neighbours in a very rural setting.
- How do I book?
- Please use our on-line booking form. Advance booking is important as you may find us closed otherwise.
- If you are booking for a group, please ask everyone to look at this information ahead of your visit so that the whole group knows what to expect.
- What must I bring?
- The barn can be cool and so a sleeping bag is essential. Please bring your own or hire one of ours when you book. They come complete with a freshly cleaned liner and pillowcase.
- A towel, food, warm clothes, torch and toothbrush may be useful. You can hire one of our towels when you book.
- Real cash in small change for extras such as sleeping bag hire and items from our small shop. We cannot currently take bank and charge cards at our barn itself.
- Washing and toilet facilities
- We have a washroom and toilet. It has a shower, and hot and cold running water.
- Do you allow pets?
- We cannot accommodate pets, but make an exception for guide dogs and other assistance dogs.
- Can I party all night?
- No! We try to accommodate all people with a love of the countryside, and we have a quiet time from 11 pm to 7 am (23:00 to 07:00) for everybody. We also have close neighbours, and we respect their need for a good night's sleep.
- Do you serve food?
- We don't provide any meals, but have an excellent kitchen complete with cutlery, crockery, pans, electric hobs, kettles and a toaster. Our warden is also likely to need to share the kitchen area.
- We have outdoor seating and a picnic table alongside an attractive wild flower area.
- There is also a pub serving midday and evening meals within an easy walk. The nearest shop for food is 2 miles (3.6 km) away in Shackleford, but check times first.
- Do you have WiFi? Mobile reception? Television?
- We have Wi-Fi, but mobile phone reception is unreliable because of the beautiful landscape. We don't have a television.
- Can we hire the barn just for ourselves?
- Yes - please see our book page.
- Our warden will be on duty when the barn is open and is likely to need to share the kitchen area with you.
- How accessible is the barn?
- The route from the road is about 40 m of unsurfaced track with a 3% gradient, going to the sleeping area and washroom. There is then a short 10% gradient grassy slope to our kitchen, with adjacent steps. Please ask for more details.
- Can I charge my e-bike battery?
- We can charge up to 3 e-bike batteries at one time.
- The batteries must be removed from the cycle, due to space in our barn.
- We require that there is always someone present and awake in the same room whilst any e-bike batteries are on charge, in order to manage the fire risk.
- We only allow charging between 5 pm and 11 pm (17:00 and 23:00) and between 7 am and 10 am (07:00 and 10:00), and then only when a warden is present.
- Our future plans include facilities to charge up to 11 e-bike batteries, and are dependent on funding being available. Please keep checking here for further details.
